History
The farm was built in 1904 by the great grandfather of the current owner Foppe Molenaar.
The Molenaar family received in 1957 their first summer guests, groups of children out of the German Rühr area, who came to sea to get some tan and could forget their sad homes for a while.
In that time the cows were outdoors permanently in summer and they got milked in the field.
So the stables were empty in summer, they were cleaned from top to bottom and the walls were painted.
The first years the children slept on strawbags in the clean and cool "rooms".
The dairyfarm with most of the cattle is located at the Kooiweg since 2000.
The grouphostel could renovate and change in favour of the guests.
Now people sleep in beds, have modern sanitary facilities and there's a professional kitchen to cook whatever you want.
The cows walk in the fields as soon as possible, from april untill autumn realy gets ugly.
But just as humans we let them in the stable as soon the weather turns cold and wet.
For groups who are interested it is possible to make an appointment for a tour in the stables and between the cows to learn more from the fascinated and complex work the farmers do here.
And don't forget to watch the animals while grazing...you might see a calf being born!
